Celebrating Female LatinX Icons for Hispanic Heritage Month: Celia Cruz
For decades, Celia Cruz's "Azucar" is a staple of any Hispanic family get together or wedding. Do you want to get everyone on their feet, even your abuela and abuelos, at your next party? Throw on some Celia and watch the sparks fly. From "Quimbara" to "La Negra Tiene Tumbao", you will see the folks break out their old moves and show you a little something about moving your feet. There is so much "orgullo" for our Cuban Queen in South Florida, especially Miami, and enough love to light a beam in the sky visible from the ISS.
Celebrating Female LatinX Icons for Hispanic Heritage Month: Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo is one of the most well known artists across the globe and is a personal hero for many Latinos especially female LatinX artists. Kahlo was a free spirit locked in a bed for most of her life due to multiple health issues. She had polio as a child, was in a terrible bus accident in her teens and had gangrene on her foot in her 40s. The bus accident was the impetus for her to start painting. It helped pass the time while being bedridden for months and with the encouragement from her parents, she launched a historic art career.
